The Alpine Environment | App Development

mcsn-first

The Alpine Environment App is a project developed in collaboration with SUPSI Switzerland and the Cantonal museum of natural history of Lugano.

The goal of the project was to develop and implement a tablet app for the "Alpine Environment" area of the museum, which would provide visitors with an interactive experience that reproduced sounds of the environment, narrations, and animal sounds presented in the exhibit.

As the developer, my role in the project was to take the design guidelines, wireframes, and mockups provided by the museum and SUPSI and turn them into a functional app.

Design

The design guidelines, wireframes, and mockups provided by the museum and SUPSI were well thought out and provided a clear direction for the development of the app.

We used these guidelines to create a simple and intuitive interface that would allow visitors to easily navigate the app and interact with the different sounds and narrations.

Development

To develop the app, we used HTML, CSS, and JS. We developed a web version of the app first and then converted it to an app version for the specific device provided by the museum.

This allowed us to ensure that the app was fully functional and met the design requirements before we converted it to an app version.

Using GitHub

We were able to collaborate and work on the project efficiently.

We could track changes to the code and ensure that we were all working on the latest version of the app. This helped to reduce errors and ensure that the app was delivered on time.e yellow checkmark We could track changes to the code and ensure that we were all working on the latest version of the app. This helped to reduce errors and ensure that the app was delivered on time.

Features

Visitors can interact with the app using a simple slider with the different animals and buttons to interact and play the sounds. The app reproduces sounds of the environment, narrations, and animal sounds presented in the "Alpine Environment."

The four languages, Italian, German, French, and English, were included to accommodate the diverse audience of the museum.

Conclusion

The Alpine Environment Tablet App is a successful project that demonstrates my skills and experience in app development and collaboration with clients.

By working closely with the museum and SUPSI, we were able to deliver an app that met their design requirements and provided an immersive experience for visitors.

The app has been sustainable for the museum for future changes. The app code is hosted and the museum can update the content easily for future changes.

Bringing it all together

The app had a significant impact on the museum and its visitors. Feedback from visitors was overwhelmingly positive, with many praising the app's ease of use and the immersive experience it provided.

The app helped visitors to better understand the sounds of the Alpine Environment and appreciate the natural world around them.
